5 Ways to Collaborate with Your Suite Community

One of the amazing things about MY SALON Suite and Salon Plaza is that you can be your own boss! However, on the flip side, another amazing thing is that you are surrounded by fantastic people in the beauty biz who can help lift you up. Collaboration is one way to shine and stand out! And all you have to do is walk down the hall in your salon and see who you can collaborate with. Here are some ideas for working together with your community.

  1. Host events together- Host a Holiday or Girls Night Out event. An example could be a spa day where a stylist, a nail technician and a massage therapist could all work together. A Holiday event could be a fun Halloween event where clients can swap costumes or stylists and make-up artists can create some spooky ideas for your costumes!
  2. Refer clients to each other- If you are a hairstylist, keep it in the family and refer your client to get her nails done down the hall or have a massage with one of your fellow suite owners. Offer 10% off their next visit for booking within the community members.
  3. Social media shout outs- Take a moment and give a shout out to a salon owner who is killing it lately. Lift each other up! Use a fun hashtag, such as #ShoutoutSaturday for this.
  4. Try each others salons out and post about it on social media- Experienced an amazing massage? Got a beautiful manicure? Had some stunning extensions put in? Spread the word on your social media channels. Go “live”, take a selfie for “#SelfieSaturday”, or post a fun boomerang video of you visiting other Salon Suites.
  5. Create Packages- Maybe you want to go a bit further than just helping each other out and you want to create a package with your fellow salon owners. If you are a hairstylist, you can collaborate with a nail technician, esthetician or massage therapist and create a package for clients. For example, “Spa Day Package”, “Hair & Nails Package.” Promote your packages in your salon as well as social media, website and targeted emails!

Benefits of Building Charity Events Into Your Business

Charity events are not only good for your soul but they can also help your business. Clients love looking forward to repeat charity events every year, especially when they know you offer a special event like our free back to school haircuts, they will keep coming back to you to get that amazing haircut again and again!

One of the benefits to participating in charity or fund raising events is that you can make some great new community contacts and meet new people and/or customers. Make sure to exchange your business cards with people at your event; don’t be afraid to grab their business card and follow up with them after your event and thank them for coming in! You could even offer a discount or bounce-back offer for anyone who attended the event.

One way to participate in a charity event is to pick a cause every month and have a relevant charity promotion. For example, in the month of October, you could promote a “Go Pink!” event where clients could get a pink streak in their hair, pink extension or pink nails. A portion of the proceeds would go to Breast Cancer research. Another example includes a toy or clothing drive around the holidays. Have clients bring in a toy or clothing item to donate,  and offer a discount on their appointment (could be as small as 5%). Promote your charity events on social media and get the word out!

If you want to go outside of your Salon Suite, another option is to get OUT into the community and offer your services to the less fortunate by having a salon day at a women’s shelter or family shelter. Make sure to post your goodwill on your social media!

Remember to keep track of all that you spend for your charity event and any donations because these can be used as a write-off during tax season. With the holiday seasons approaching, it is a great time to start planning your charity events. How are you going to give back this year?

8 Event Ideas for Your Salon Suite

Hosting an event or special occasion at your business can be exhausting but so rewarding! It is a great way to bring in business by bringing together your loyal clients, but also finding new clients. You can create an event that appeals to all different demographics! Aim to do one event quarterly for your first year, then once you’ve got that all set, try a few more the following year.

  1. Charity events (like our Back to School Free Hair Cuts Event)- This is a great way to get some free advertising for your Salon Suite.
  2. Mommy/Daughter Day- Offer tea and make it a fun tea party!
  3. Moms Night Out- What do moms love more than getting pampered? A night out with their girlfriends and no kids!
  4. Father/Son Day- This could be done around Father’s Day or any day of the year. Offer a special discount for the the Dad or the kids.
  5. “How to” events; These are great for people learning how to style their hair for a special occasion or just everyday. This could be a Back to School event like “Simple Hairstyles to make your mornings easier” or “How to Get a Flawless Look in 10 minutes.” Make it a fun night with snacks and drinks and you can charge per person for the event or as a group!
  6. Ladies night- Bachelorette parties or wedding parties will love having a Ladies Night Out at your Salon Suite.
  7. Guys night- Offer a guys night pampering event and collaborate with another Salon Suite.
  8. Holiday Events- schedule an event around a holiday.

Fall can be a busy season; Back to school and work for teachers, holidays, apple picking, carving pumpkins and lots more. We want to get clients in to your business in between all of their busy activities.

  1. Create a referral program: Every time a client refers you to a new customer, offer some kind of reward!  Whether it is a free product, a discount on the next appointment or even as simple as a gift card for coffee.
  2. Create a Loyalty program: This could be as simple as a card, where after 10 appointments, they receive a discount on a product or their next service.
  3. Write a weekly blog of your own: “Write what you know.” Whether that his hair, beauty, nails or make up. Write about your family, your business, anything! People love to learn about what motivates someone.
  4. Offer fresh fall deals such as color promotions, back to school haircuts, etc.: Change it up at the salon a bit so clients feel like they absolutely NEED to get in to see you. New colors for the fall, a back to school deal for students and teachers. Your calendar will fill up fast!
  5. Offer new products: Products are a great way to up sell that appointment. Offer new products at your salon and talk about them to your clients during their serivce.
  6. Ask your clients what THEY want; create a poll which gives you feedback. Offer a gift certificate to one lucky winner as a contest.
  7. Try something new with your social media: go “live”, run a contest, get personal!
  8. Pampering events: Host a “Moms Night Out” event at your Salon and with other Suite Members or host a “Mommy/daughter Day” event.
  9. Run a contest: Show your clients some social media love and ask them to take before and after photos for the Fresh Fall look and have your clients vote for a winner.
