My Way: Figuring Out What Works Best For Your Business

Figuring out “your way” when it comes to business is sometimes a trial and error experience. Figure out what works for YOU and your Salon Suite! Answer the following questions and brainstorm some ideas.

  • What services would you like to offer? Decide which services you offer at your Salon. Do not overwhelm yourself with too many services that you cannot follow through with. Having a simple list of services is key and be sure to post them on your website and social media.
  • What is your target clientele? Who are you targeting? Men? Women? Age? Children? Families? If you are a stylist who specializes in extensions and color, you are most likely targeting women so make sure your brand and marketing is targeted toward that demographic. If you specialize in kids haircuts and styles, make sure your suite, business practices and marketing reflect that.
  • Hours & Schedule– The great thing about being your own boss is creating your own schedule. You get to choose when you work, how often and for how long. Do what works best for your life and schedule. Do not overwhelm yourself at first with working too many hours, that is a quick and sure fire way to get burned out. Make sure you post the information on your website and social media.
  • Set goals and track your progress to see what works for you– Write down your specific, measurable and achievable goals. Then write down the steps to make those goals happen. Try out those steps and take notes on what works for you and your salon. Whether that is a flyer in a community center, a social media post, or a “live” video that got some attention, or an event you hosted, write it all down and see what has brought in business to your salon.
  • Products you offer– Choose products that reflect you and your business practices. This is a great way to increase revenue and upsell your appointments. Think carefully about what retail products you will carry and what your clients will want and what they will keep coming back for.
  • Defining Client Experience- Bring that FLAIR into your Salon Suite and create your own brand. Use your own experiences from past work experiences or being a customer yourself to create your own client experience. Examples of this could be to offer tea or water once they walk into your Salon Suite, during the appointment you can offer reading material or maybe choose the music to listen to during a massage. Think about ways to enhance your client’s experience from the minute they walk into you Salon Suite, to the moment they leave. A follow up email, phone call or text is another way to enhance the experience and ensure customers are happy and that you care about their experience.
  • How You promote your business– Marketing is one of the most important ways to succeed as a small business. MY SALON Suite provides its Salon Suite owners with lots of marketing tools and resources including marketing calendars that offer daily ideas for promoting a Salon Suite. Do not feel like you have to do every one, but find out what works best for your Salon Suite and your clients.
