Suite Success Spotlight: Agnes Tomczak, Hair by Agnes Salon Suite in Stamford, CT

Suite Success Spotlight: Agnes Tomczak, Hair by Agnes Salon Suite in Stamford, CT

This week we’re putting the spotlight on one of our most successful MY SALON Suite owner, Agnes Tomzcak of Hair by Agnes, located at 27 High Ridge Road, Stamford CT 06905, Suite 202. To book an appointment with Agnes, call. 203-898-5943.  Here’s what we learned:

Q:  How long have you been a beauty professional?

I’ve been working as a beauty professional for 25 years, including 13 years as a traditional salon owner. I love the work that I do. I love to be with people, I love to make people look younger. I love it when I know a client feels more stylish and good about themselves after their appointment.

Q: What drew you to the Suite life?

When I found out that Salon Suites were coming to my area I was very excited and eager to become a Suite owner. To own a (traditional) salon with multiple stations is a very big thing.   To be a salon owner and to do hair is kind of impossible – it’s very difficult to do both things well at the same time. You really need to be able to focus on being a salon owner to do that well, and you need to focus on being a stylist in order to that at a high level.

As a traditional salon owner I had a tremendous financial burden and lots of overhead. On top of that there were the inevitable staff issues.  It just wasn’t working.

I wanted to have something of my own, but I also wanted to be on my own, so that I could be 100% sure that I would be proud of all the work coming out of my salon. You can’t always control the quality of work and the client experience that someone else provides. Now, if something goes wrong, it’s no one’s fault but my own, and I can fix it.

Q: What do you love most about the Suite life, and what do your clients love the most?

I love being on my own, but with the support and resources of several supportive, collaborative colleagues just outside my door!

MY SALON Suites are much more quiet and private than traditional salons. My clients absolutely love that it’s a one-to-one environment. It’s much more relaxing for them than coming to a big, open salon. It’s quiet, and peaceful and that’s what they are looking for.

I appreciate having the ability to control my work schedule. I choose to work just 4 days each week. My client list is very full so I’m usually unable to take walk-ins. But with other Suite owners right here, there is usually someone who can help out if the client can’t wait.

Even though I’m on my own, right outside my door I have supportive colleagues. We all get along really well here. The environment with the other Suite owners here is like family.  If someone needs something, maybe they find out they don’t have a hair color they need, there’s always someone nearby ready to share supplies. We have this type of family and collaboration, but we can still go and be on our own. It’s perfect!

Q: Share your success!  If you were going to give a new Suite Owner one piece of advice, what would it be?

Have fun! Owning a Salon Suite is FUN. For new Suite owners, it’s a brand new experience – an adventure. As new MY SALON Suite locations open I think Suite ownership will only become more popular.  It’s an awesome experience – enjoy it!

Q: What’s your favorite color?

My favorite color is green and has been since I can remember – since I was born, I guess! I’ve always been drawn to the color green. At one point I opened up my closet and realized that nearly all the clothing I owned was some shade of green. I was born in August, and I’ve been told that a lot of Leo’s love green!

Bonus Question: We asked the franchise owner what makes Agnes’ Salon Suite so successful:

“Agnes has an extremely loyal clientele and is in high demand! She is accommodating and hardworking and knows what it takes to operate a salon bringing over 15 years of salon ownership experience to the table prior to opening her doors at MY SALON Suite.” – Kerry Tolisano, Owner of MY SALON Suite in Stamford, Connecticut
