Summer is upon us! And typically, salon businesses start to slow down in the summer months, but this is a great time to start to brainstorm ideas for your business. With clients taking vacations and kids out of school for the summer, how do you keep your suite on top of your client’s priority list? Here are a few tips to keep business steady even in the slower months of summer.

• Prebook appointments around vacation schedules
• Create specials/promos based around summer hair and skincare and have “pop-up” sales throughout the summer.
• Add summer related product such as hydration and UV protections to your retail shelves. You can also introduce your clients to new products such as tanning lotions.
• Focus on summer trends like summer highlights, beach hair, exfoliation and even skin tone and skin protection.

During the months that you are booked solid, you likely do not have the time to improve your daily operations. Utilize the free time that you have during the summer to organize your salon. Some other great tips to improve your operations in this down time are:

  • Take stock of inventory to determine what new items you need to order to prepare for the busy season.
  • Reorganize your suite to make everything easy to find.
  • Evaluate the condition of your salon and consider making some improvements, offering new services or retail items.
  • Don’t just focus on the inside of your salon; find ways to improve operations online as well; work on your website, your social media and your portfolio.
