Four years ago, Kelby Dimaapi began her journey with MY SALON Suite – she had recently graduated from the Aveda Institute, started touring salons, and found MY SALON Suite to be the perfect place for her to start her career. A hair stylist specializing in multi-dimensional color, Dimaapi has built strong relationships with her clients over the years in the safe environment of her suite, Studio K Hair. She and her sister, an aesthetician, work in side-by-side suites. “As a wife and mom to two young boys, it’s imperative that my schedule is flexible – and MY SALON Suite helps me maintain a strong work-life balance, which I’m so grateful for,” said Dimaapi. “When I first walked into MY SALON Suite, I knew right away it was where I would begin and achieve in my career. I’m proud to say I’m continuously booked 6-8 weeks out and have grown tremendously as a hairstylist all thanks to the freedom I’ve found with owning my own business!” Dimaapi plans to grow Studio K Hair with MY SALON Suite and is excited about what the future holds for her business.
After Kelby’s suite upgrade, we sat down with her to hear from her about how it has helped take her business to the next level.
Tell us about the entire process of being a Featured Member and what you loved about it?
The entire process was all so very exciting and was such a great gift!! From the time I was told I had been chosen as one of the Featured Members- even up until now I have felt very special. My Salon Suite has done so much for me to help me with my business! They connected us with an amazing marketing team. I was able to get on a personal zoom call with the rest of the Featured Members to consult with the hosts of The Home Edit- where they shared opinions on organization. I was able to meet with Eric Lawrence personally to discuss my style, including choices of color schemes. He also gave his suggestions on what furniture, decor and painting would look good in my suite. I was given published media opportunities along with social media marketing opportunities to attract more traffic into my Instagram platform. The day of the actual transformation, videography, and photo shoot was such a fun time! I loved how they really focused on who I am as a busy family woman and entrepreneur. I could not have asked for anything more. I am so grateful I had the chance to meet with Jeanine Testa, who helped me with my logo and business cards! MY SALON Suite, the team from Powers Brand Communication, Eric Lawrence (Designer), the Home Edit, Jeanine Testa (Graphic Designer), Tom (Photographer), and Patrick (Videographer) have all made my experience so very memorable!! MY SALON Suite TRULY went above and beyond.
What are your favorite parts about your suite now?
My favorite part about my suite is my beautiful pendant still. I do absolutely LOVE everything, but each day I still admire how beautiful that pendant is.
What have your clients said about your suite?
My clients agree how much it matches me, and my whole personality. The vibe is who I am. It feels so very warm and inviting. I get a lot of compliments on how it gives a very cozy home like feel!
How has it made you feel more creative in your space? How has it helped you with your craft?
My upgrade has completed who I am as an artist. This studio suite is like my second home, so it is really important for me for my space to match my brand. I don’t feel like I need to really add anything in the room, because it feels so beautiful and perfect!
What does it mean to you to be a Suite Elite Featured Member?
Being chosen as a Suite Elite Featured Member has meant so much to me. It has been more than about winning some random contest. It has not only given me all the wonderful perks of promoting my brand, but has given me the platform to inspire other individuals out there who have been hesitant about making that next step to being an entrepreneur. For that person wanting to start but is afraid, all I can say is to believe in yourself and you will see your true potential. The business and clients will follow! This has been such a milestone in my career and I am so proud to be apart of this community with like minded individuals!
