Salon Suite Safety Tips

We know that the suite concept is one of the safest ways to run your salon business. The numbers speak for themselves in a chart presented to Gov. Newsom in California. “Each stylist operates in the safety of a completely private one-to-one office,” the letter also states. “These suites are enclosed with walls, ceilings and doors that separate them from the common hallways. The cosmetologist does not share any tools, sinks, chairs, equipment or surfaces. There is no congregation of clients.”As we head into the fall season shortly, we want our Members and clients to remain safe and healthy. Let’s review some Salon Suite safety tips to help guide you this fall.

  • Review your 4 Step Guide to Reopening your salon and make sure you are completing all steps.
  • Stay Informed & Stay Prepared: Follow your state government, State Board and/or Department of Health guidelines for your location and profession. Make sure you disinfect your suite fully by following CDC guidelines and follow the protocol as well as secure plenty of PPE and cleaning products such as Barbicide®. As a Suite Elite Member, you can secure such items at My Suite Store. (Check your emails for Suite Elite Member access)
  • Please remember to also:
  • Upgrade sterilization units i.e. autoclave, submersible tray systems; such as Barbicide®
  • Increase or add to your inventory:
    • Non-latex gloves to have in your suite for clients to use when entering/leaving
    • Hair Cutting combs
    • Chemical and cutting capes, aprons, smocks, robes
    • Nail files, buffers, toe separators, flip flops, neck strips, applicators, lip gloss brush, cotton pads, wipes, eye protection and any other single-use inventory.
  • Use a mask in public areas of your MY SALON Suite or Salon Plaza location and in your suite when with a client. Make sure you have plenty of masks for your clients as well!
    • We recently asked our Members for some tips on getting through the day with your masks on. Answers included:
      • “One word: Mints!”
      • “Lots of water!”
      • “Take ‘breathe’ breaks before your next client comes in.”
      • “Tie a knot in the surgical mask ear loops to avoid glasses fogging up.”
  • Communicate With Your Clients: Offer online booking and make it as easy as possible for your clients to book an appointment with you. Make sure they stay in their car until you text them when you are ready for them and your salon suite has been properly disinfected between clients. You can even offer a virtual assessment so you can be prepared for their visit since most services are going to require a longer time to complete. Once you have assessed your clients virtually, you will be able to adapt your schedule accordingly. Make sure you are asking your clients some questions to keep you and everyone around you safe.
  • Have you traveled out of the county/state/country in the last two weeks?
  • Have you been around anyone who is not feeling well, or not feeling well yourself?
  • Let them know you only allow 1 client in your suite at a time
  • Request they not bring any items with them such as books, magazines, crafting materials (knitting or crocheting) etc.
  • Like many other industries, consider taking the clients temperature prior to beginning any services
