Founding member Jen Thiele has been in the beauty industry for twenty-one years. A member with the Suite Elite for the past eight years, Jen says that joining the Suite Elite has been the “best decision I have ever made in my twenty-one years of doing hair.” She never imagined being able to own her own salon. She had always worked for someone else and never wanted the responsibility of employing other people. With the Suite Elite, she says it “made me feel so free in so many ways.”
Jen grew up in the area of Metairie and is now raising her teenage daughter there. Jen is a single mom and said her income had a huge shift eight years ago after joining MY SALON Suite in Metairie (The very first MY SALON Suite location). Jen says, “ I’m able to do more as a mom and to send her to a good school. I am able to travel and take trips which are things that I never got to do as a kid because my family struggled and lost my dad when I was young.” Jen’s daughter helped her coin her business name, Teased by Jen and says that her daughter is “my support, every step of the way.” Jen goes on to say that she loves that she can make her own schedule and work when she wants to work. “Not having all that pressure, making it mine, making my own schedule, my routine, comfort level for my clients, and the privacy to run my own business is what I love about it.”
Like many other members, another aspect Jen loves about the Suite Elite is that she can pick the color lines and products she loves and wants to use and isn’t stuck doing one thing. “I can use the products I want and I like that will fit my clients best. I can give them the very best which makes me a better stylist.”
When asked how it has changed her life, Jen said: “it changed in the sense of having that freedom to come and go and make my own schedule and have that flexibility and that work-life balance.” She explained that she loves being her own boss because she can create the atmosphere she wants for her clients including listening to the music she wants, decorating her salon suite the way she wants and offering hair services that her clients want.
MY SALON Suite of Metairie is owned by Alanna McAllister. Jen and Alanna have built a great relationship over the past eight years. Jen said she loves that Alanna is always there to support her members with their businesses.
What piece of advice would Jen give to someone thinking about joining the Suite Elite? “Follow your dreams. I never wanted to own my own salon with employees and this gives you another opportunity to be in business for yourself. Make it yours- The sky ‘s the limit!”
