My Style Story Success: Meet Kaitlin of Knot A Hair Studio

For our latest My Style Story Success feature, we traveled to Midland, Texas, to meet Kaitlin Parker, the talented force behind the creatively named Knot A Hair Studio.

Kaitlin’s journey to the stylist chair wasn’t easy. Life moved fast for Kaitlin—she became a mother at 17, which meant putting her dreams on hold to “get a real job and be a big girl.” It wasn’t until her oldest son started kindergarten that she decided to finally pursue the career she had dreamed of since she was six years old. Today, she is not just a stylist specializing in lived-in blondes and natural color; she is a thriving business owner.

“Knot” Your Average Salon Name

The name of Kaitlin’s studio, Knot A Hair Studio, actually started as a pun for her Instagram handle while she was in cosmetology school.

“I knew I was going to be doing extensions and tying a lot of knots. I thought, ‘that’s kind of cute.’ It could go either way: Knot Kaitlin or Not Kaitlin. When I opened the studio, I just knew: Not A Hair Studio.”

Showing Up for Yourself

Moving into an independent space after only three years in the industry was a major leap of faith. Despite the “industry noise” telling her she needed more time in a traditional salon, Kaitlin did the “hairstylist math” and decided to jump.

The reward has been more than just financial. For Kaitlin, the boutique studio experience at My Salon Suite offers the best of both worlds:

The Freedom to be Mom: Kaitlin can leave at 3 p.m. to pick up her boys and switch into “mom mode” without asking for permission.
The “Solo” Spotlight: Her brand is front and center. She chooses her own products, her own booking system, and her own sunny, neutral decor.
The Security of Community: Whether she needs to borrow a box of foils or refer a client to the barber down the hall, Kaitlin says the Midland community “builds each other up.”

A Message to Her Younger Self

When asked what she would say to the girl who was scared she wouldn’t make it, Kaitlin’s answer was simple and powerful:

“It’s going to be okay. You’re going to get to make women feel beautiful, and you’re going to have your own space doing it. I think she’d be really proud.”
